Battle

Last weekend Scott and I went to Baton Rouge Louisiana for a pole vaulting meet.

I had to stop at this sign. I love that Scott humors me and my constant stopping to shoot something. One thing I'm so happy about in my relationship is the fact he is always there to help me, never there to judge me.
LSU is huge. We drove past it once while driving to Texas for Thanksgiving. Everything is purple, which is different to me being so used to that teal and orange or orange and hunter green. People were still really nice. Scott and I also went for coffee at this place.

Magpie Cafe got real good reviews on Yelp. Which is our "go to" for good food sources. I got a cappuccino and Scott got a honey coffee latte. Both were brewed and done perfectly, they even did that cute artsy swirl on the top which I totally didn't get a shot of.

OH! while waiting in a pretty decent line, one of the ladies at the front asked us if we wanted anything to eat. I told her this was our first time and she recommended their "Pop tarts" raving they were "life changing."

She was right. They are. I can't wait to make my own pop tarts for company soon.
I advise on getting there early, at least on the weekend. Scott and I were there around 10am and almost all the stuff we really wanted to try [food wise] was almost done. As a matter of fact we got 2 of the last 3 pop tarts. Coffee was on point and so was the pop tart so this place gets a total 5 stars from me.

Before I could even sit down to admire the atmosphere, Scott says "I have a surprise but we have to go now"  so we rush to the car and head towards the Rural Life Museum. It was like LSU's Agricultural park with a museum parked right towards the end. Before we could reach the end Scott turns to me and says "We're going to see a civil war reenactment"

I was so damn excited because that was actually one of the things on my bucket list. I must've looked at him like "How did you know!?" We got to walk around the Rural Museum which was mostly out doors. Showing what living was like in the 1800s. It was very nicely preserved and was really some what eerie and beautiful at the same time.

The reenactment was the Battle of Baton Rouge where the unions and confederate fought in the hopes that the confederate would take Louisiana back. The canons sounded so bad ass! It was seriously the best date I've ever been on. We sat on the field and watched the whole thing. It was so worth the 10 dollars we spent on tickets.

It feels really awesome to get to cross this awesome thing off my list. I can't wait to see whats next :)
